I would like to redeem myself, but I don't think I can. I am both a Duke fan and a GU fan. I just think that gnomes are kind of like people--you know--magical powers and all. I do think a Duke gnome and a GU gnome would get into a fight when no humans were around, and yes--someone would get broke in half. But on a realistic note, we shall look for a Duke gnome to take on vacations as well...oh well--we need equality in gnomery, I guess.

I'm aware of George Bush's background... what he doesn't do is project the image of his background. He doesn't speak or act like a Yale graduate. And I would say that to Joe the Plumber, he feels as "everyman" to them as Sarah Palin does.

The only difference is, for her, it's real. For him, it's a political strategy.

1. Sarah Palin actually is being employed by FOX NEWS as a consultant (like Dick Morris is) at the moment.

2. George Bush was a multimillionaire son of a President that attended Yale and owned a baseball team before he got into politics. That is not an ordinary guy kind of background. Sarah Palin on the other hand worked her way through like 3 schools to get her bachelor's degree and then got a cheesy job at a local tv station. I think she has George Bush beat on the "common people" meeter.

Interesting that you say feminine and emotive... I actually learned the behavior from a guy friend and an ex-boyfriend. One who is a HUGE Patriots fan (um, no need to guess who that is... I would imagine), and the other who is maybe the biggest sports fan I know, LOVES him some Brazil Futbol, among other things. (He's the one who got me into soccer, actually.)

They were the first ones who taught me it's okay to order your life around sports sometimes. :-) Haha.

So I will pass on to them that you called them girly.

I do not believe, anymore, that you have to be like this to be a rabid fan, though. I think I used to. Because it was what I knew. But I've since met people (like you) who know their sport, but it doesn't define them.

I agree with you that anyone who doesn't know that about me doesn't know me very well. It's amazing, though, how when I have different circles of friends, they only know one part of me. I don't know if other people find that happens to them, too. But I sort of get these odd looks from people sometimes who know me really well in one context and then see these other sides of my personality and they're like, "what?!? you like basketball AND read romance novels?" or "you watch sports AND crochet?" I guess it's the complexities of people's personalities that make them who they are.

As for the whole commentary on recent basketball stuff, that also definitely you. A very feminine, dramatic, emotive way of engaging the game. Not something I can relate to personally, but something I have come to understand about you.

I do, too. I really prefer to watch seasons back to back. I moved on to Angel now, which still feels a lot like buffy. but it's different enough that I really feel like Buffy is "done". We'll see what happens when I get into season five, when Spike comes on Angel. :-)

Now you're making me want to watch Buffy again. I've seen some/most of it, but not sure I've ever watched the whole thing. In general though, I LOVE watching an entire show season after season back to back. You really get a good feel for the continuity of the characters and the themes. Love it! :)
